My “musings” start with oceans because I’ve always been fascinated with the sea. When I was eight years old, a librarian had a profound impact on me when she recommended the book “Lady with a Spear,” the autobiography of Dr. Eugenie Clark. From that day on, I wanted to become a marine biologist. (For the next few years, my family had to pretend not to know that the twelve-letter word I routinely used for hangman was “icthyologist”.) Twenty years later, I earned a master’s degree in oceanography from the Graduate School of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island. I’ve been studying, writing about, advocating for and teaching about the oceans and marine life ever since.
In this section, I’ll post detailed background info about the various ocean issues I’m blogging about, including glossaries and “primers.” Check back soon!
